The community of Delta State University has provided me with more than just a “job”, but the opportunity to advance my education, to advance my career, to partner with faculty and participate on a journey of learning with some wonderful students.
After graduating from high school in 1983, I enrolled at Delta State University as a pre-nursing student. I chose to attend this university because of the excellent reputation of the undergraduate nursing program and pass rate on the NCLEX-RN Boards, as well as being my grandfather’s alma mater. I have never regretted my decision.
The undergraduate education I received at this university prepared me to become a registered nurse and an individual who understands the importance of service and commitment to the profession of nursing and others in our community.
After working in the local hospital of Cleveland for approximately five years and serving as a preceptor for DSU nursing students, I returned to Delta State University in 1994 as a full-time faculty member in the School of Nursing because of a desire and love for teaching, as well as believing education “makes us who we are”.
The community of Delta State University has provided me with more than just a “job”, but the opportunity to advance my education, to advance my career, to partner with faculty and participate on a journey of learning with some wonderful students. My husband, who is also an alumni, and I have made Delta State University a part of our family, and Cleveland our home.
